Looking for a new apartment? Units in Bluffton could be ready as early as late 2017
Southeastern Development announced in a press release Friday that the developer has started construction on 300 apartments at Hampton Lake in Bluffton.
The Grand Oak community at Hampton Lake coincides with the company’s $120 million investment to build more than 660 luxury apartment units in three separate communities in Bluffton and on Hilton Head Island.
Plans detail 240 apartments on four levels that wrap around a parking deck at Shelter Cove Towne Center on Hilton Head Island and a multi-family community with 124 apartments at Buckwalter Place in Bluffton in addition to the 300 units planned for Grand Oak.
John Lee, senior vice president of Southeastern, said they had cleared the site for Grand Oak and plan to lay concrete pads for the apartment buildings around October to finish the community by the end of 2017.
Lee said his team was about to start work on the parking deck at Shelter Cove any day now and that he did not have a completion date for this project at this time.
The Island Packet and The Beaufort Gazette originally reported that a contractor with the developer said the buildings would be completed and open by April 2018.
Now that permits and city approval are behind them, Lee said it’s just a matter of building the project.
“Once you get permits and start construction, it takes on a life of it’s own,” he said. “Once it’s going, it’s going.”
At Buckwalter Place in Bluffton where Southeastern plans to build a 113,000-square-foot Kroger Marketplace near a competing Publix, retailers and the 124 urban style apartments, Lee said they had also started work on the site.
“We’re very positive ... on Hilton Head, Bluffton,” he said. “We’re excited about finishing the project as soon as we can.”
