As owners retire, Java Joe's on Hilton Head Island to close

After 16 years in business, a local coffee shop will close its doors this week.

Java Joe's in Coligny Plaza at 101 Pope Ave., Suite C, on Hilton Head Island, will end operations on Sept. 30, according to co-owner Nick Watson.

"We're pushing 70," said Watson, referring to himself and co-owner Santiago Hueyo. "It's time to retire."

Watson said a recent attempt to sell the business was unsuccessful.

In addition to coffee, Java Joe's sells smoothies, sandwiches, desserts and liqueur specials.

Java Joe's is open 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
