Eddings Point Boat Landing, a boat ramp on St. Helena Island that closed in September for repairs, has reopened after extensive work by Beaufort County Public Works.

The original structure, closed because of a concrete failure, had major potholes and deterioration, as well as areas where the asphalt was degrading. The county had announced in January the intention of fixing the boat ramp after finding a hole nine months prior.

The repairs included demolishing the original structure on the northern lane, pouring a new slab, installing a new boat landing sign and correcting the degraded asphalt areas.

The Eddings Point Boat Landing and boat ramp provides access to Jenkins Creek and the Morgan River and is regularly used by commercial fisherman and crabbers.

The total cost of the project was over $60,000, which includes the marine contract — a contractor qualified to work on docks, boathouses and piers, among other things — paving, a new sign and striping in the parking lot to reestablish parking for visitors.
