Two weeks remain to register for the annual Hilton Head Firecracker Run, a Fourth of July tradition that celebrates its 31st edition at Shelter Cove Community Park.

With more than 1,800 runners and walkers expected, the Firecracker Run is the largest and oldest road race in Beaufort County. The race returned to its traditional Shelter Cove venue last year after a two-year relocation while Shelter Cove Towne Centre was revamped.

“The Firecracker is an Independence Day tradition for many islanders and visitors,” race director Mark Weisner said. “Each year we see more groups with 15 to 20 family members with participants of all ages.”

Entry fees currently are $30 for adults and $25 for runners age 12 and under, increasing by $5 starting June 27. A percentage of event proceeds will be given to the Hilton Head Rotary Club and other local charities.
