Lowcountry Masters swimmers produce 6 national championships
Barbara Eisele won two national titles and was runner-up in four other events, and Yorlliry Moreno also captured two titles as Lowcountry Masters swimming took home 28 medals from last weekend’s U.S. Masters Swimming national championships in Greensboro, N.C.
Eisele added to her collection of titles by winning the 100 meter butterfly and 400 individual medley in the women’s 85-89 division. She also was second in the 50 butterfly, 200 breaststroke and both the 100 and 200 individual medleys.
Moreno, competing in the men’s 20-29 division, won championships in the 1,000 freestyle and 1,650 freestyle, along with a runner-up finish in the 500 freestyle.
David Painter and Pete Palmer also came home with titles, with Painter (men’s 70-79) winning the 50 freestyle and Palmer (men’s 80-84) touching first in the 1,000 freestyle. Palmer also finished second in the 500 and 1,650 freestyles.
Bob Colyer added five top-10 finishes and Jim Carroll had two as the six-man LOCO squad placed 18th as a team out of 144 entrants.
