Storm’s Ava Van Marter selected for Costa Rica trip
Hilton Head Island’s Ava Van Marter is the latest Storm Soccer Academy player to receive an invitation to Costa Rica to spend a week developing her game against top international competition.
Van Marter will travel next month as part of a U.S. Soccer Region III squad made up of top players from the Southeastern states. She’ll be joined by teammate Isabella Gutierrez (Statesboro, Ga.) on the weeklong journey. Both are members of Storm’s ’99 Girls Black team.
Three Storm boys — Jesus Morales, Dominic Claudio and Juan Zuniga — have been selected for similar trips this spring.
Van Marter, a midfielder, also has been invited to U.S. Soccer’s National Training Center and similar regional events. She is ranked by TopDrawerSoccer.com as one of the top 50 midfield recruits in the Class of 2019.
A freshman at Heritage Academy, Van Marter has been part of the Storm system since the club’s 2010 inception.
Storm Soccer Academy draws players from across the Lowcountry, with Hilton Head serving as one of three training hubs along with Savannah and Statesboro.
