Need to run off holiday pounds? Registration is open for holiday 5Ks

Entries are being taken for Saturday’s Hilton Head Hospital Jingle Jingle 5K Run & Health Walk, as well as the Polar Bear 5K Run & Walk to be held New Year's Day in Bluffton.

The Jingle Jingle 5K, in its 25th year, features a colorful seasonal theme as the course takes runners around the Hilton Head Hospital campus and Main Street. Holiday prizes will be awarded to the top three runners in each age division, along with awards for the top three overall male and female competitors.

Entry fees are $35, with the first 500 participants receiving a long-sleeved Jingle Jingle T-shirt, jingle bells and a candy cane. The award ceremony will feature a visit from Santa along with refreshments, music and door prizes.

The Bauer Dental New Year's Day Polar Bear Run takes place Jan. 1 at Buckwalter Place, taking runners down both Buckwalter and Bluffton Parkways. More than 400 entrants are expected, and runners are encouraged to bring pets, strollers and baby joggers.

Entry fees are $30, increasing to $35 starting Dec. 27, with all participants receiving a Polar Bear Run T-shirt. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Bluffton Fins swim team and other local charities.
