Hilton Head Island Crew hired Scott Adcock as a third member of its coaching staff, as the high school rowing club prepares for its fall start in two weeks.
Adcock spent 10 years coaching high school crew programs in the Northern Virginia area, where the sport has grown in popularity for high school athletes. He joins longtime coaches Dave Erdman and Lu Strayer, offering the chance to give athletes more individualized instruction.
The club, which draws from high-schoolers in both Hilton Head Island and Bluffton, has scheduled two informational sessions for interested newcomers. The first will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Hilton Head branch library; a 5 p.m. Thursday session follows at the Bluffton branch library.
No rowing experience is necessary, though athletes must pass a swim test before going on the water. Fall training will begin Aug. 22.
