Sun City swimmer takes home 6 golds from state Senior Classic

Sun City resident Bonnie Sotire took home six gold medals in swimming at last month’s South Carolina Senior Sports Classic in Florence, including a sweep of all four short- and middle-distance freestyle races.

Sotire, 63, finished first in her age group in the 50-yard freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle. She also added victories in the 200 breaststroke and 200 individual medley.

The state event serves as a qualifier for the National Senior Games that will be contested in June 2017 in Birmingham, Ala. Sotire has been competing at nationals since 2005.
