Deadline nears to enter next month’s Santa Elena Regatta
Two weeks remain to enter next month’s Santa Elena Regatta, featuring the Jean Ribaut Cup and Pedro Menendez Cup on back-to-back days as part of the Lowcountry’s festival to celebrate the 450th anniversary of the Santa Elena colony’s establishment on Parris Island.
The Jean Ribaut Cup will be contested on April 2 in Port Royal Sound between Hilton Head, Bay Point and Parris Island. The Pedro Menendez Cup will follow a day later, starting along the Beaufort waterfront and down the Beaufort River.
Both races will be sailed as separate events, with results combined to crown an overall Santa Elena Regatta winner. The regatta is open to boats at least 22 feet in overall length, with a PHRF rating listed in the U.S. Sailing manual. Boats over 18 feet will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
The event, conducted by the Beaufort Yacht and Sailing Club, will serve as the opening event of the monthlong Santa Elena anniversary festival. Award presentations and other social events will take place at the BYSC.
