Hilton Head poker player had the right hand at the wrong time at WSOP
The field dwindled to a quarter of its size after Day 2 of the 2017 World Series of Poker $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em Main Event, and Hilton Head’s Robert “Moose” Rini was one of those losses.
“Well, I just got busted out!!” Rini posted on Facebook close to 11 p.m. Tuesday.
He lost on a hand where he held an Ace and a King, but the flop — a King and two 4’s — rewarded his opponent, who’d started the round with just a 3 and a 4. Three of a kind beats a pair.
“Bad bets will continue to happen in the game of poker,” Rini said in a text message Wednesday morning. “I have given them and recieved them, that’s poker.”
There were more than 4,000 players at the start of Day 2, according to the event website. By the end of play, just over 1,000 card sharks remained.
Rini, a Hilton Head Island realtor, made it to Day 5 of last year’s tournament, and finished in 188th place, earning $42,285. Qui Nguyen won the event, netting more than $8 million.
