NASCAR driver sells mansion near Charlotte for a record price, Realtor says
NASCAR driver Ricky Stenhouse Jr. has sold his mansion north of Charlotte for a record price, a spokesman for Realtors in the transaction said Wednesday.
The mansion east of Mooresville went for $12.2 million, the highest-priced sale in the greater Charlotte area, according to Jack Wagner, spokesman for Corcoran HM Properties. Corcoran agents Josh Tucker and Joey Adams represented Stenhouse.
Wagner declined to disclose the buyer, who wasn’t listed in Rowan County public real estate records by Friday afternoon.
The county lists the total market value of the land, home, stables and other amenities at $10.1 million.
The previous Charlotte metro record was a new-construction waterfront mansion on Lake Norman that sold for $11.5 million in July 2024, according to Corcoran HM Properties. The home is on Belle Isle Drive in Cornelius.
In a statement, Tucker said the sale signifies “the continued strength of the Charlotte luxury market. Buyers at this price point are looking for more than just a home. They’re seeking a particular lifestyle, ultimate privacy and unique amenities.
“And this property delivers on all those fronts.”
Stenhouse originally listed the mansion for $16 million in July 2022, ESPN reported at the time. He later reduced the price by about $3 million, according to its listing.
Putting green, horse-riding arena
The 9,986-square-foot mansion includes 140 acres on Pelham Lane, off N.C. 152 about 35 miles north of Charlotte.
The property has 18 European-style equestrian stables and an outdoor entertainment area that includes a vanishing edge upper pool, a pool house/cabana and a putting green, according to its listing.
The mansion has five bedrooms and six bathrooms, according to its listing. The property has a fitness training center, 3-acre pond, guest housing and a covered horse-riding arena with a sound system.
The seller is listed as a limited liability company in public property tax records, Slide Job LLC. Stenhouse named the LLC in homage to dirt bike racing and a notorious racing move, NBC Sports reported in a 2018 profile of the 2020 Daytona 500 pole winner.
A slide job is when a driver on the inside of the track heads into a turn with such force that he slides up the track in front of a driver on the outside, Inside Dirt Racing reported in 2017. The move is common on dirt tracks, according to the site.
Stenhouse raced dirt bikes as a kid and rode them on his property, Motor Racing Network reported in 2019.
The Mississippi native has never said why he wanted to sell the home.
Ties to past NASCAR drivers
The mansion has ties to top-flight former NASCAR drivers, Tucker told The Charlotte Observer in 2022.
Ernie Irvan, who drove in the NASCAR Cup series for 13 years and won the Daytona 500, owned a home on the property in the 1990s, Tucker said.
After a fire destroyed the home, Irvan built a new one in 2001, according to the broker.
Driver and team owner Joe Nemechek bought the property and developed its equestrian amenities and related road network in the mid-2000s, Tucker said.
Slide Job LLC has owned the property since 2014, property records show.
