Football camp featuring Clemson’s Deshaun Watson kicks off Friday
Deshaun Watson, Clemson quarterback and likely Heisman Trophy frontrunner for 2016, headlines a list of large talent that will be on display at B.J. Payne’s football camp this week on Hilton Head Island.
Payne’s Adventure Cove/Lava Fitness All-American Football Camp will begin Friday and run through Sunday at Hilton Head Island High School. The camp is open to kindergarteners through eighth-graders and costs $100.
Watson’s favorite target, receiver Artavis Scott, will also serve on the camp staff, as will South Carolina Gamecocks receiver Deebo Samuel.
“Being able to get Deshaun down was huge,” Payne told the Island Packet and Beaufort Gazette last month. “And he 100 percent wanted to do it. He enjoys working with kids, and what a great kid (to meet) in talking to him.”
In previous years, Payne’s camp staff has been dotted with headliners such Ezekiel Elliott and Braxton Miller — both coming last year from Ohio State — along with future NFL picks James Laurinitis, Brian Hartline and Karl Joseph.
“But we’ve never had a Heisman frontrunner from an in-state school,” Payne said. “So this is huge.”
