4 p.m. — Deja vu at Harbour Town as Spieth, Cantlay tied
Hundreds of Heritage Sunday spectators are closely tailing co-leaders Jordan Spieth and Patrick Cantlay for their final few holes remaining to be played at Hilton Head’s Harbour Town Golf Links.
Last year, Spieth and Cantlay were forced into a playoff after ending the tournament dead even. They may be headed for yet another tight finish at the top, both sitting at 16 under through 11 holes.
Just behind them on the leaderboard is Matt Fitzpatrick, who spent much Saturday alone at No. 1. He’s currently 15 under par and has eight holes to go.
3 p.m. — Spieth eyeing repeat championship
Jordan Spieth is on a hot streak midway through the afternoon, shooting 4 under par through his first seven holes and overtaking Matt Fitzpatrick for the No. 1 spot at RBC Heritage.
Despite his excellent start, Spieth’s day is only the second-best so far. South Korean pro Sungjae Im is shooting 5 under par, improving his overall score to 14 under and tying 2022 runner-up Patrick Cantlay at third place.
Savannah’s Brian Harman remains in the top 10 at No. 8, but is running out of time to make up the four-stroke separation between himself and the tournament leaders. Harman is 12 under par with seven holes left in the tournament.
1:30 p.m. — Top names tee off in final round
Heritage’s top performers hit the course early Sunday afternoon to make their final push for the tournament title.
As defending champion Jordan Spieth and last year’s runner up Patrick Cantlay clashed in another close race to the finish, tied at 2nd place, Lowcountry native Brian Harman entered focus once again. Harman is shooting 2 under par through five holes, tied for 6th place.
Sungjae Im, the PGA Tour’s No. 17 golfer, started his day similarly strong. Im is shooting 2 under par through the first four holes of the final round, joining Harman and several others at 11 under par.
American pro Sahith Theegala made his largest leap of the tournament so far. He surged 15 spots up the board to enter the struggle for 6th place thanks to starting his day 3 under par through six holes.
Last year’s U.S. Open champion, Matt Fitzpatrick, remain in the lead at 14 under par.
12 p.m. — Justin Rose starts day strong, returns to top 10
Englishman Justin Rose was out to a strong start at Heritage on Sunday, sinking two birdies through his first two holes and returning to the tournament top 10.
On Friday, Rose spent much of the morning and early afternoon in the No. 1 spot before Jimmy Walker’s 6 under par day helped him take the lead.
Rose was tied for 9th place at 10 under par going into the afternoon.
Just one stroke behind him is Masters champion Jon Rahm, who rebounded after struggling in round one and nearly falling to the cut line. Through his first two holes, Rahm is 1 under par and looking to break into the top 10.
Tournament leaders Matt Fitzpatrick, Patrick Cantlay and Jordan Spieth will tee off at 1 p.m.
10 a.m. — Heritage Sunday tees off
The final round of RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing began early Sunday morning following the customary sunrise service in Harbour Town.
Much like a year ago, defending champion Jordan Spieth and 2022 runner-up Patrick Cantlay stand side-by-side atop the leaderboard, sitting at third and second place, respectively. Cantlay’s impressive play through three rounds was bolstered by a hole-in-one on hole 7 on Friday, which helped catapult him into the top 5.
Following that shot, Cantlay became popular with tournament volunteers and media members after sending coolers of free beer to celebrate.
“It just never really occurred to me before to do it, and I’d seen some other guys do it in years past, so I decided I’d do it for everybody, the volunteers and the caddies,” Cantlay said.
After falling in last year’s Heritage playoff against Spieth in heartbreaking fashion, Cantlay said he’s not trying to force anything on the tournament’s final day.
“I’ve had a good track record around this golf course and had a number of chances, so it should be nothing new [Sunday],” Cantlay said.
After another impressive run on Hilton Head, Spieth said he’s relishing the chance to defend his title in a decisive final round.
“For me, that’s why I got into this gig,” Spieth said. “The ball is in your hands, and I’ve had plenty of times where it’s worked out, I’ve had plenty of times where it doesn’t, but each time I never regretted being in that situation.”
After the top three leaders, there is a five-way tie for fourth place, including Jimmy Walker, who was the leader Friday after the second round. He begins the day at 11 under par.
