Patrick Cantlay has leapt into the Heritage top five in style.

Prior to teeing off on the 7th hole at Harbour Town Golf Links, Cantlay was 6 under par at the RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing, part of a tie for 10th place.

It only took him one swing to become a tournament leader shortly after noon Friday.

From 200 yards out with a 6 iron club, Cantlay’s swing sent his ball soaring over the lagoon and wooden walkway that split the seventh hole in two. It landed near the center of the green and rolled forward several feet before dropping into the cup.

Cantlay’s hole-in-one is the second in two years at Heritage. In 2022, Corey Connors sank his own ace on the same hole, according to PGA records.

Apparently, the shot left Cantlay in a giving mood. About two hours after the hole-in-one, he sent two coolers of drinks to the tournament’s media tent.

Last year’s runner-up, Cantlay is again poised to make a run at the tartan jacket. In 2022, he fell to defending champion Jordan Spieth in a playoff.

Spieth is currently shooting 7 under par, tied for 7th place.
