Heading to RBC Heritage this week on Hilton Head? Here’s a look at the forecast
Those who plan to be decked out in their plaid best for RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing may have to rifle through their closets to find matching umbrellas later this week, according to a forecast by the National Weather Service in Charleston.
The course is closed to spectators Monday at the Harbour Town Golf Links in Sea Pines, but you can catch the opening ceremony starting at noon Tuesday, when meteorologists predict it will be sunny with a high near 70. The opening ceremony includes a parade led by defending champion Jordan Spieth at the Harbour Town Yacht Basin. Athletes in the 2023 tournament will be competing for a $20 million purse, which has more than doubled from $8 million in 2022.
Wednesday, when the Pro-Am is scheduled to kick off at 7 a.m., NWS meteorologists say the sunny weather will continue with a high near 72. Rain is not expected until Thursday and will take place mainly after 2 p.m. The high Thursday is near 74. Showers are likely Friday as athletes play their second round with a 60% chance of rain and a high near 75.
Saturday, Plaid Nation Day, will be mostly sunny with a high near 77. There will be a 20% chance of rain and thunderstorms, according to the NWS.
The forecast from the NWS for Sunday, the final day of the tournament, was not yet available. AccuWeather, a weather prediction company, forecasted a high near 80 and a 59% chance of rain.
