Rain halts 2nd round of Big East golf, cooling off surging Seton Hall player
Seton Hall’s Lloyd Jefferson Go carded eight birdies in 16 holes before rains forced play to be suspended Monday, taking a commanding lead for the individual title at the Big East men’s golf championship at Callawassie Island.
Go, a junior from the Philippines, birdied five of his first six holes of the second round on the way to a front-nine 31. Three more came after the turn, countered by two bogeys, that left him at 6-under par for the day before storms hit.
When play was called, Go’s round was four shots better than anything else from the 45-man field. His total of 8-under par was six shots ahead of first-round leader Jose Montano, who played 12 holes Monday in 1-over.
The second round will be completed Tuesday morning, followed by the final round. Georgetown and Xavier remained 1-2 in the team competition, with the Hoyas holding an eight-shot advantage when play was stopped.
