Georgetown takes lead after opening round of Big East men’s golf

Sam Madsen fired a 2-under-par 70 and Cole Berman added a 71 on Sunday, helping to propel Georgetown to a nine-shot advantage after the opening round of the Big East Men’s Golf Championship at Callawassie Island.

Harrison Rhoades added a 73 for Georgetown, giving the Hoyas three of the top nine golfers on the individual leaderboard amid intermittent showers at Callawassie Island. Georgetown finished the day with a team score of 2-over 290, with Marquette and Xavier posting 299s.

Xavier’s Jose Montano fired the top individual round with a 69, one shot ahead of Madsen and Seton Hall’s Lloyd Jefferson Go. DePaul’s Charlie Spencer-White, a former IJGA student and Heritage Academy grad, was tied for 10th after an opening 74.
