Runners still welcome, volunteers still needed for Hilton Head Island Marathon
The Publix Hilton Head Island Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K is set to start at 8 a.m. Saturday, but there’s still time to register for the race.
And if you just want to help out, race organizers can still use you.
Volunteers are still needed for all aspects of the race including course management, water stations, refreshments, registration and the finish line.
All team members will receive an event t-shirt and refreshments for their time. They will also be eligible to win some great door prizes.
There is still time to register to compete in the races.
Late registration and packet pick-up will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at The Westin Resort from 6:45 to 7:20 a.m. on race day at Jarvis Creek Park.
More than 1,200 runners and walkers from 39 states and four countries will take off at 8 a.m. Saturday from Jarvis Creek Park.
The Hilton Head Island Marathon is a Boston Marathon Qualifier, featuring a scenic USTF Certified Course that takes participants through three parks and over the Broad Creek.
A percentage of proceeds from the event will go to benefit five local charities: The Hilton Head Rotary Club, Hilton Head Island High School athletics, Hilton Head Island High School ROTC, Hilton Head Christian Academy, Bluffton High School ROTC and Volunteers in Medicine.
The event has donated more then $42,000 to area charities in 13 years.
