Some of the nation’s best runners will compete in Hardeeville in December. Here’s why

The USA Track & Field Half Marathon Championships will bring world-class runners and former Olympians from across the nation to compete in Jasper County on Dec. 5.

The event is part of the Mortgage Network Road Races Series and will include a 5K race open to the public, in addition to the invitation-only championship races.

The races will take place at Jasper Park on Red Dam Road in Hardeeville. The top 10 finishers of each gender in the half marathon will receive prize money, including $7,000 for first place.

The 5K is scheduled to start at 7:45 a.m., with the Women’s Elite and USATF Women’s Championship at 8:50 a.m. and the Men’s Elite and Championship at 9 a.m.

The half marathon races are selection events for the 2022 World Half Marathon Championships on March 27 in Yangzhou, China.
