Letter: Focus vote on the economy

I agree with the recent letter: Selecting a president is not a personality contest.

The most important considerations are the economy and the Supreme Court. As the writer pointed out, austerity is a devastating economic plan. It has failed many times and in many places all over the globe. It is taking its toll on Europe as we speak.

And there is always a transfer of wealth to the financial vultures and away from the middle class. When the economy is ruined as in 2008 then the jobs disappear and there are no tax dollars coming in. So the debt goes up but it is not because of spending.

Retirees with government or other pensions should not feel confident that they would be safe from another recession, because when there is no money then there is no money. They need to pick a party that will choose the best economic advice from the most qualified scholars and that would be Paul Krugman and Robert Reich.

FDR and Marriner Eccles saved capitalism for the general welfare. Barack Obama did save capitalism because he chose stimulus instead of austerity. Let’s not undo, but build on his legacy.

Don’t let Rupert Murdoch brainwash you into thinking otherwise because he will be the one that benefits at our expense.
