Yes, there was a pack of goats parading around Hilton Head yesterday

Strange things happen after hurricanes.

On Oct. 10, days after Hurricane Matthew tore by Hilton Head Island, Nicole Hightower was heading to check on her friend’s home in Spanish Wells when she was greeted with an unusual sight.

She assumed there would be tree damage. She expected flooding. But she did not expect this.

“All of the sudden this huge pack of goats was headed toward me,” Hightower said. “They were literally lost. Security didn’t even know who they belonged to.”

Hightower posted the video to social media and was happy to see it provided a some comic relief to a community in disaster.

Hightower rode out the storm from her home in Long Cove and has spent the last few days without power helping her neighbors and checking on friends’ homes.

“I’m from Tampa, so I’ve been there, done that,” Hightower said. “But we don’t have 60-foot pine trees in Florida. Long Cove looks like a bomb went off.”

Hightower said that she doesn’t regret ignoring Gov. Nikki Haley’s Oct. 5 evacuation order.

“I’ve been fine, and I’ve been able to help other people by being here, so I don’t regret it,” Hightower said.

She even helped the goats find a home. She said she read on Facebook last night the goats found their owner late last night.
