Editor's Note: Hundreds of Beaufort County residents were without power Thursday evening, after officials warned of a severe thunderstorm system moving through the region.

Data from poweroutage.us showed the blackout included 691 customers in the county as of 5:35 p.m., the vast majority associated with Dominion Energy. The company’s website provided an estimated restoration time of 10 p.m. Thursday.

Just after 4:30 p.m., meteorologists warned residents of a strong thunderstorm moving northeast through Jasper County, bringing wind gusts of up to 55 mph to the areas of Hilton Head Island and Bluffton.

Beaufort County and large portions of the Lowcountry were placed under a severe thunderstorm watch that was scheduled to expire at 6 p.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service’s Charleston office. The NWS asked residents to seek shelter and stay away from windows.

This report will be updated.
