Flight delays possible for Lowcountry travelers due to winter storm. What to know

As forecasts continue to show that the Hilton Head area will be spared from the slew of ice and freezing rain headed to the Palmetto State this weekend, impacts are still expected – especially for folks traveling by air.

Airports across the Southeast have been gearing up for the expected weather. Delta Air Lines announced Thursday afternoon it was canceling flights across five states, including Arkansas, Tennessee, Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana, while other airlines brace for disruptions.

While numbers continue to grow, flight tracker FlightAware says that over 2,000 flights have been delayed and over 500 canceled nationwide on Friday.

Here’s how many flights have been delayed or canceled at airports across the Lowcountry:

As the storm moves in, more cancellations and delays are expected. Travelers are encouraged to check their flight status frequently and check rebooking options and offers from respective airlines.
