Beaufort Co. schools, businesses closing ahead of Tropical Storm Nicole. What to know

Here is a list of the scheduled closings and rescheduled events in Beaufort and Jasper counties as Tropical Storm Nicole is set to approach Florida’s east coast by Wednesday evening.

Government

Beaufort County: Beaufort County Convenience Centers are set to close Thursday and will stay closed Friday in observance of Veterans Day, county officials said in a news release. All county buildings, parks and programs will be closed Thursday.

Town of Bluffton: Offices in the Town of Bluffton will be closed because of the storm, town officials said in a news release. Staff will work remotely Thursday. Offices will be closed Friday for Veterans Day.

Hilton Head: Town of Hilton Head administrative offices are set to close Thursday ahead of the storm.

Jasper County: No closures for county offices or convenience centers have been announced as of Wednesday afternoon.

Education

Beaufort County School District: Beaufort County School District students will have an e-learning day Thursday instead of canceling lessons to avoid having to make up any missed days during the holiday break in December, school officials said in a news release. After-school events like sports scheduled for Wednesday will go on as planned. Information on any possible sports cancellations Thursday and Friday was not immediately available. Beaufort County schools had already been scheduled to close Friday in observance of Veterans Day.

Jasper County School District: Classes in the Jasper County School District will also move online Thursday and Friday because of the storm, according to the school district’s Facebook page. All after-school activities like sports have been canceled for the rest of the week and classes are scheduled to resume Monday.

Technical College of the Lowcountry: All TCL campuses are closed starting Thursday and will resume at 8 a.m. Friday.

Transportation

Airports: County airports, including Hilton Head Island Airport and the Beaufort Executive Airport, expect to remain open, but this is subject to change as the tropical storm gets closer. Travelers should check with their airline regarding flight cancellations and or delays.

Events

Veterans Day: Veterans Day parades in Beaufort and Bluffton have been canceled and will not be rescheduled.

Bluffton: Two Town of Bluffton committee meetings as well as the weekly farmer’s market in Old Town Bluffton will be canceled Thursday.

Hilton Head: The Parks & recreation Commission meeting set to start at 1:15 p.m. Thursday was canceled.
