Beaufort County schools delay free meal distribution for Tropical Storm Isaias

Beaufort County School District is rescheduling its Monday free meal distribution due to Tropical Storm Isaias.

The district will instead distribute meals “at the regularly scheduled time” on Tuesday. Pick-ups will continue as normal on Wednesday and Friday, district spokeswoman Candace Bruder said.

Bruder said the district distributed 620,000 free meals between March 16, when school buildings across the state were closed for coronavirus, and July 10.

In June, Beaufort County School District moved from daily meal distribution to a Monday, Wednesday and Friday schedule. Students typically get four meals on Mondays and Wednesdays, and six on Fridays.

Anyone under 18 — or under 21 with disabilities — is eligible to receive the meals, which can be picked up between 9 a.m. and noon at Coosa Elementary, St. Helena Elementary, Battery Creek High, Whale Branch Middle and Bluffton Middle schools.

Meals will also be dropped off along bus routes across the county. Those delivery routes have been in place since March, and can be found at beaufortschools.net.
