$2 million lottery ticket just sold at SC store that had $1.5 billion winner in 2018
A luck-favored convenience store in South Carolina sold a Powerball ticket that earned someone $2 million, the South Carolina Education Lottery said.
A KC Mart in Simpsonville sold the ticket that scored $2 million in the drawing on July 26, officials said in a news release. That same store sold a Mega Millions ticket worth $1.5 billion in 2018.
“Simpsonville is a wonderful city, so it is fitting for such a wonderful thing to happen here,” former Simpsonville mayor Janice Curtis said in a news release back in October 2018 after the Mega Millions drawing.
At the time of the 2018 drawing, the $1.5 billion prize claimed by a South Carolina resident was the largest jackpot payout to a single person in the U.S., ABC reported.
Wednesday’s Powerball ticket holder spent an extra dollar for PowerPlay, increasing the $1 million prize to $2 million, lottery officials said. The winner matched the five white ball numbers drawn but not the red Powerball number. The odds of matching five white balls are 1 in 11,688,054, the S.C. Education Lottery said.
The lucky numbers from the July 26 drawing were 3-16-40-48-60 Powerball: 14. Winners have 180 days from the drawing to claim their prize.
The Powerball jackpot is still up for grabs. The top prize for the July 30 drawing is estimated to be worth $60 million, lottery officials wrote in a press release.
