Search for hit-and-run driver after pedestrian is run down in Lexington Co., cops say
A search is underway for the driver involved in a hit-and-run collision in Lexington County that left one person seriously hurt, the South Carolina Highway Patrol said Wednesday.
The crash happened at about 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 21 on Busbee Road in Gaston, near the intersection with Pasture Road, and about a mile from U.S. 321, the Highway Patrol said in a news release.
A vehicle ran off the left side of the road and hit the pedestrian, according to the release. The driver left the scene heading west on Busbee toward Fish Hatchery Road, the Highway Patrol said.
Further information on the pedestrian’s condition was not available.
The Highway Patrol said the vehicle believed to be involved in the collision is a black GMC or Chevrolet pickup truck or SUV, from 2007-2014.
“The vehicle should have damage to the driver’s-side headlight,” and “the driver’s-side mirror should also be missing,” Highway Patrol said.
Anyone with information on the driver or the collision is asked to call the Highway Patrol at 803-896-9621 or 800-768-1501, or submit a tip to CrimeStoppers at 888-CRIME-SC or submit an online tip. Tips can also be texted to *HP.
Through Wednesday morning, 602 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2020 — and 94 were pedestrians — according to the Department of Public Safety.
