Dog in fenced yard when lamp keeping it warm starts fire, North Carolina officials say
A dog was rescued from a yard in North Carolina after a fire broke out, officials say.
The dog was in a fenced-in back yard at a home in Burlington on Sunday afternoon when a lamp being used to keep the dog warm started a fire “in the vicinity,” according to a release from the Burlington Fire Department.
A neighbor noticed smoke and flames coming from the back of the house, rescued the dog from the back yard, and called 911, the release says.
Firefighters responded to the house and quickly put out the fire, according to the release.
The neighbor wasn’t hurt while rescuing the dog, the release says.
The fire caused about $15,000 of damage and destroyed the home’s deck, the release says, and officials determined it started because the light was “improperly placed.”
It’s important to follow the instructions when using portable heating devices such as lamps and space heaters, the release says.
