Hilton Head, Coastal Carolina Hospitals relax patient visitor policy during coronavirus

Hilton Head Regional Healthcare, which operates Hilton Head and Coastal Carolina Hospitals, announced Friday it is relaxing its coronavirus visitation policy.

The change, effective immediately, allows patients who are admitted to the hospital, being treated in the emergency department or are having an outpatient elective procedure to have one visitor.

The new policy also applies to Tidewatch Emergency Department, according to a news release from Hilton Head Regional Healthcare.

Visitors will be screened for fever, respiratory symptoms or travel to high risk locations prior to entering the hospital, the release said. Any visitor not meeting screening criteria will not be permitted to enter the hospital.

They will also be required to wear visitor identification, a face mask, and sanitize their hands.

Hilton Head Regional Healthcare restarted elective surgeries in late April.

Beaufort Memorial Hospital is still prohibiting all visitors, according to its website.

There are a few exceptions to that rule: Labor and delivery patients as well as pediatric patients are allowed one designated visitor.

Patients requiring assistance and end-of-life care are being evaluated on a case-by-case basis, the website says.
