Alan Perry ‘intending to run’ for 2nd term as Hilton Head mayor

After facing no shortage of heat in his first term, Hilton Head Mayor Alan Perry has made it clear he intends to run for a second term.

Perry announced his intent to run for a second term Thursday in an interview with WHHI-TV.

“I’m definitely intending to run again next year,” he told WHHI-TV during the interview.

Perry was elected in November 2022 and has helped steer town efforts to update land use regulations, buy more land and build more parks.

“This year’s been a very busy year,” Perry said during the WHHI interview. “We had a lot of hot topics.”

Earlier this year, the Hilton Head town council passed new restrictions on short-term rentals and approved plans for a new $311.6 million bridge project. Both discussions highlighted tensions within the Hilton Head community between those that want to quell growth and those that want to invite more of it.

Perry first announced his intent to run again in a November interview with WHHI-TV.

“It’s always been my goal not to serve one term,” Perry said during the November interview. “There’s always that challenge because sometimes there’s a lot of heat and pressure, but it’s how you work through that and pick yourself up and move on.”
