A man and woman ran a man over with a pickup truck then pepper-sprayed him as he lay pinned beneath it, California sheriff’s officials say.

Deputies responded to the attack in Apple Valley at 1:23 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

A man walking near a home was chased by a man and woman in a pickup truck, deputies said.

The two ran the man over several times with the pickup truck, pinning him beneath one of the wheels, deputies said.

While he was trapped, they got out of the truck and pepper-sprayed him in the face, deputies said. The news release did not indicate what sparked the attack.

The man was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, deputies said.

David Schaar, 36, and Jacquline Chapman, 38, both of Apple Valley, face charges of assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful use of tear gas, deputies said.

Investigators ask anyone with information to call 760-552-6800.
