A person leaped from a burning boat into a Utah reservoir with a dog and life jackets, state officials reported.

The boater first tried to extinguish the flames on the vessel at Flaming Gorge Reservoir at about 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, the Utah Department of Natural Resources Division of Law Enforcement said in a news release.

When that failed, the person grabbed a dog and life jackets and jumped overboard, officials said.

A passing boat picked up the person and dog, officials said. No one was injured.

The boat sank, officials said. An investigation into the incident continues.

Flaming Gorge Reservoir is about a 235-mile drive northeast from Salt Lake City.
