Bluffton traffic circle beautification expected to be complete by late April
A project aimed at sprucing up the traffic circle at Bluffton Parkway and Bluffton Road in underway and is expected to be finished by the end of April.
The town has completed electrical work and drilled a well for new irrigation system at the circle, town planner Pat Rooney said Thursday.
That system will provide water to a host of new landscape elements.
Plans call for raised mound of ornamental trees in the center of the circle surrounded by colorful flowers and grasses.
The town is in the process of completing the irrigation system and selecting a contractor to provide the landscaping services.
The estimated cost of the tree and flower planting is between $19,000 and $25,000.
Rooney said the hope is to have “a contract completed by the end of the week,” which would allow landscape work to begin in early April.
Original plans for the traffic circle improvement project included the installation of large trees, lighting and signage.
The project was slowed and ultimately scaled back after S.C. Department of Transporation officials determined the taller features of plan could potentially block sight lines and put drivers in danger.
