Pedestrian fatally struck by Honda on Jasper County highway, troopers say

A pedestrian was struck and killed Monday night while walking along a Jasper County highway, officials said.

It happened around 8:40 p.m. as the pedestrian walked westbound on the shoulder of S.C. 336 (Old House Road), near the road’s outlet with S.C. 462.

In the area of Mulberry Alley, the pedestrian “darted into the roadway” and was hit by a 2019 Honda Accord driving west, according to Lance Cpl. Brittany Glover of the South Carolina Highway Patrol. The driver of the Honda did not report injuries.

The deceased pedestrian had not been identified by the Jasper County Coroner’s Office as of Tuesday morning.

The site of the fatal collision is about 5 miles from Ridgeland’s Main Street and the posted speed limit in the area is 55 mph.
