One killed as two pickup trucks collide on Beaufort’s US 21, officials say
A Sunday night collision between two trucks in the Beaufort area killed a man from the suburbs of Charleston, officials said.
Jacquay Roberson, 29, of Ladson, S.C., was pronounced dead in the minutes following the crash on U.S. 21 (Trask Parkway), according to the Beaufort County Coroner’s Office.
The fatal crash happened around 9:55 p.m. Sunday as Roberson drove north in a 2025 GMC pickup truck with one passenger inside.
In the area of the Stokes Toyota Beaufort dealership, the GMC left its side of the highway and crashed head-on with a 2005 Ford pickup driving in the southbound lanes of U.S. 21, Master Trooper William Bennett said in a press release from the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Emergency crews took both Roberson’s passenger and the driver of the Ford to the hospital with injuries, according to the release.
Sunday’s collision marked the 14th known traffic death in Beaufort County so far in 2025. Five of the year’s fatalities have occurred on U.S. 21, which consistently ranks as one of the most dangerous roadways in the area.
