Beaufort teen killed in motorcycle accident early Wednesday morning on SC 170: coroner
A two-vehicle accident on Robert Smalls Parkway early Wednesday morning killed 19-year-old Beaufort resident Ethan Fish, the Beaufort County Coroner’s Office announced Wednesday afternoon.
The crash occurred around 12:25 a.m. Wednesday, as Fish drove a 2019 Kawasaki motorcycle west on S.C. 170 and the driver of a 2012 Ford pickup approached the highway from Goethe Hill Road. The pickup driver attempted to turn left, colliding with the motorcyclist, according to Master Trooper William H. Bennett of the S.C. Highway Patrol (SCHP).
Fish was pronounced dead at the scene, said Deputy Coroner Margaret Bowyer. A time and cause of death were not available, she said, but an autopsy was being performed Wednesday afternoon at the county’s autopsy suite in Port Royal.
The driver of the Ford pickup, who was the only passenger in the vehicle, was taken to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries, according to the release from SCHP. An update on their condition was not immediately available.
Wednesday morning’s accident marked the second traffic fatality in Beaufort County this year. Gregory Parcella, a 45-year-old from Hilton Head, died in late January after his Tesla sedan veered off Spanish Wells Road and struck a tree.
Both fatal crashes are under investigation by the SCHP.
