Police officer released from hospital after Monday crash on Bluffton Parkway. What we know
The officer involved in a crash Monday afternoon on Bluffton Parkway had been released from the hospital as of Tuesday, according to the Bluffton Police Department.
The officer was on duty at the time of the crash near the intersection of Bluffton Parkway and Buck Island Road, said Sgt. Bonifacio Perez, a Bluffton Police Department spokesperson. The injured officer was home Tuesday resting from moderate injuries.
The crash happened around 1:10 p.m. between a 2007 Nissan pickup and a 2021 Ford Explorer registered to the Bluffton Police Department, said Trooper Nick Pye with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The officer was heading east on Bluffton Parkway while the driver of the truck was heading west. When the driver of the pickup tried turning south onto Buck Island Road, the two vehicles crashed, Pye said.
The driver of the pickup also was taken to the hospital for treatment.
All lanes heading east on Bluffton Parkway were shut down for about 30 minutes while emergency responders worked to clear the crash.
Additional details, including who had the right of way at the time of the crash or whether the pickup driver had been released from the hospital, were not immediately available.
