Jasper County schools will go remote for a week, citing quarantines, staff shortages
Jasper County School District is moving to remote learning for a week, citing “three class closures at several of our elementary schools, and several staff shortages due to COVID,” district officials announced in a Wednesday afternoon press release.
The remote period will begin Thursday and last until at least Jan. 20. Students are bringing home technology and e-learning instructions Wednesday afternoon and will be required to log in daily during the remote period.
“We will reevaluate data before the return date for further direction,” the release read.
Jasper County School District’s COVID infection and quarantine data isn’t available in the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control’s statewide school report for this week, which covered Jan. 3-7. Each Jasper County school is listed as a “no report,” which DHEC said could be due to the recent holiday break on its website.
Jasper County was also impacted by strong winds and power loss on New Year’s weekend, which led the district to hold remote classes on Jan. 3.
On Tuesday, the district announced that it had shut down a class at Hardeeville Elementary School after three students tested positive for COVID-19. The Ridgeland Hardeeville High School varsity women’s basketball team quarantined last week after a player tested positive for COVID following a three-day tournament.
