Sheldon man faces murder charge in deadly domestic dispute
A Sheldon man involved in a Sunday domestic dispute turned deadly has been charged with murder.
Joseph Brown, 35, faces an additional charge of murder after he was charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon in the commission of a violent crime following the shooting death of 61-year-old Ronnie Black at a residence at Big Estates Circle, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office news release.
The Sheriff’s Office obtained warrants for the additional charge after interviews of witnesses, evaluation of the crime scene and a forensic autopsy performed on Black’s body revealed he had allegedly been shot multiple times and suffered trauma from being struck by a blunt object, the release said.
Investigators say interviews with witnesses revealed that, though Black was in possession of a handgun during the dispute, he did not point it at Brown or threaten him.
The dispute was reported around 10:40 p.m. after an argument broke out on the porch of the residence. Another man was injured by gunfire during the dispute, leading to Brown’s attempted murder charge.
Brown was denied bond Wednesday afternoon. He remains in the Beaufort County Detention Center.
No additional charges are expected, the release said.
