A candlelight vigil will be held Sunday for the Bluffton man killed in a shooting outside Dollar General Jan. 3, according to a relative of the man.

Mourners will hold a vigil for Jon Kinlaw from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the parking lot where Kinlaw was killed, according to community activist Sharon Brown, a cousin of Kinlaw's mother.

"A mother loses her son, a child no longer has a father, a relationship has been broken, and a community is left in disbelief that a shooting in our community has taken the life of someone we know," Brown wrote in an email.

Kinlaw, 29, was shot in the chest by a male suspect after an argument outside the store, Bluffton police have said. Investigators are searching for a dark-colored vehicle they believe the suspect drove off in after the shooting.

Funeral arrangements by Stiney's Funeral Home of Hardeeville are pending.

Kinlaw's death was Beaufort County's first murder in 2016.

Anyone with information on the shooting can call Lt. Joseph Babkiewicz or Sgt. Kelly Heany at 843-706-4560.
