Hilton Head woman charged with shooting at person in north-island neighborhood

A woman was arrested after allegedly shooting at another person in her Hilton Head Island neighborhood early Tuesday morning, according to police.

The suspect, a 32-year-old with a listed address in Hilton Head’s Sandalwood Terrace public housing complex, was charged Tuesday with aggravated breach of peace, inmate records show.

An arrest warrant alleges she fired a pistol in the Sandalwood Terrace community and “attempt(ed) to shoot another person” around 2:55 a.m. Tuesday, disturbing the public order in the “dense residential area.” A neighbor witnessed the incident and called 911, the warrant says.

Public records show the suspect was granted a $25,000 surety bond and released from the Beaufort County Detention Center around 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, less than 12 hours after her booking.

A spokesperson for the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office declined to answer questions about the motive behind the shooting, whether any property damage was reported and if additional charges were forthcoming, saying the incident was still under active investigation.

Under South Carolina law, aggravated breach of peace is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $500 and a prison sentence of up to 30 days, or both.
