2 arrested after fight with security guard at popular Hilton Head pub, police say

Two Bluffton men were arrested at a popular Irish pub on Hilton Head Island after one allegedly assaulted the venue’s security guard, according to police.

The 30-year-old allegedly involved in the fight was charged early Thursday morning with third-degree assault and battery, inmate records show, while another patron, 27, was booked shortly after on charges of public disorderly conduct and simple possession of a controlled substance.

Deputies were called to Callahan’s Irish Sports Pub around 11:50 p.m. on Wednesday due to an “active fight” between a patron and the security officer, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office incident report. Police arrived to find the assault suspect reportedly being held to the floor by two other males.

The security officer told police the 27-year-old Bluffton man had been close to getting into a “physical fight” with another patron, so he was escorting the man out of the business, the report says.

As the man was being escorted out, the assault suspect allegedly approached the security officer and “punched him in the forehead multiple times,” the security officer was documented saying in the police report. The security officer then brought the 30-year-old to the ground and “laid on top of him” until deputies arrived, according to the report.

Deputies issued trespass notices to the two suspects and collected surveillance footage from Callahan’s that captured the incident, the police report says.
