Why were police at Bluffton school May 1? What we know
Seven police units responded the morning of May 1 to H.E. McCracken Middle School, but a school district spokesperson said it was for an incident that did not occur on school property.
Deputies are investigating a teacher at the Bluffton school for allegedly assaulting his child, Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Staff Sgt. Robert Herlong said. Herlong added that although the alleged domestic disturbance happened at the teacher’s home, police responded to H.E. McCracken because the incident was reported through the school.
No arrest had been made as of Friday afternoon, Herlong said, and police have not identified the teacher under investigation because they have not yet been charged with a crime.
H.E. McCracken Middle School is located off Buckwalter Parkway in the same complex as Bluffton Elementary School and Bluffton High School.
Documentation of the alleged assault beyond the front page of an incident report was not available for release because the case was still active, sheriff’s office staff said Thursday.
Candace Bruder, a spokesperson for the Beaufort County School District, could not immediately be reached Friday afternoon to answer additional questions, such as whether the teacher under investigation had been placed on leave.
