SC releases 2025 ratings for Beaufort, Jasper schools. Here’s how they scored
The South Carolina Department of Education and the South Carolina Education Oversight Committee have released the 2025 South Carolina School Report Cards, offering an in-depth look at academic achievement, student progress, college and career readiness, and school climate.
Across the state, the number of schools earning an overall rating of “Good” or “Excellent” increased from 549 to 623.
How SC school report cards are determined
The South Carolina School Report Card ratings reflect how well schools are helping all students meet the Profile of a South Carolina Graduate – the statewide measure of readiness for college, careers and citizenship.
The state’s goal is for every child to graduate college, career, or military ready, and that by 2030, at least 75% of students at or above grade level.
The breakdown of ratings is as follows:
- Excellent: School performance substantially exceeds the criteria to ensure all students meet the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate.
- Good: School performance exceeds the criteria to ensure all students meet the graduate profile.
- Average: School performance meets the criteria to ensure all students meet the graduate profile.
- Below Average: School performance is in jeopardy of not meeting the criteria to ensure all students meet the graduate profile.
- Unsatisfactory: School performance fails to meet the criteria to ensure all students meet the graduate profile.
Numerical scores in each of these ratings differs by grade level:
- Elementary: Excellent (61–100), Good (53–60), Average (42–52), Below Average (34–41), Unsatisfactory (33 and below).
- Middle: Excellent (56–100), Good (48–55), Average (36–47), Below Average (29–35), Unsatisfactory (28 and below).
- High: Excellent (67–100), Good (60–66), Average (51–59), Below Average (40–50), Unsatisfactory (39 and below).

Beaufort County School District
According to Candace Bruder, spokesperson for the Beaufort County School District, 91% of schools received a rating of excellent, good, or average, with no schools listed as unsatisfactory, in the latest report.
Elementary Schools
Beaufort County’s elementary schools showed strong results, with five schools rated excellent, six rated good, six rated average, and one below average.
Excellent (61–100 points):
- Bluffton Elementary and Early Childhood Center: 63
- Lady’s Island Elementary: 61
- Okatie Elementary: 65
- Port Royal Elementary: 61
- Red Cedar Elementary: 61
Good (53–60 points):
- Beaufort Elementary: 56
- Coosa Elementary: 57
- Hilton Head Island Elementary: 58
- Mossy Oaks Elementary: 57
- Pritchardville Elementary: 60
- River Ridge Academy (elementary grades): 57
Average (42–52 points):
- Broad River Elementary: 44
- Hilton Head Island School for the Creative Arts/Daufuskie Island School: 49
- Joseph S. Shanklin Elementary: 46
- Michael C. Riley Elementary: 47
- Riverview Charter (elementary grades): 51
- Robert Smalls Leadership Academy (elementary grades): 46
- Whale Branch Elementary: 48
Below Average (34–41 points):
- St. Helena Elementary: 37
Notably, Port Royal Elementary School rose from below average last year to excellent in 2025 – a three-level increase.
Bluffton, Lady’s Island, Red Cedar, Beaufort, and Mossy Oaks Elementary Schools each improved by one level.
Middle Schools
Middle schools across Beaufort County earned a mix of ratings, with one school rated excellent, three rated good, five rated average, and one below average.
Excellent (56–100 points):
- Riverview Charter (middle grades): 61
Good (48–55 points):
- Bluffton Middle: 49
- River Ridge Academy (middle grades): 54
Average (36–47 points):
- Beaufort Middle: 43
- H.E. McCracken Middle: 46
- Hilton Head Island Middle: 42
- Lady’s Island Middle: 43
- Robert Smalls Leadership Academy (middle grades): 41
Below Average (29–35 points):
- Whale Branch Middle: 34
High Schools
At the high school level, Beaufort County schools scored with one excellent, three good, one average, and one below average rating.
Excellent (67–100 points):
- Bluffton High: 71
Good (60–66 points):
- Hilton Head Island High: 63
- May River High: 66
- Whale Branch Early College: 61
Average (51–59 points):
- Beaufort High: 59
Below Average (40–50 points):
- Battery Creek High: 47
Jasper County School District
The Jasper County School District showed a range of performance across its campuses, with most schools rated at the average level with only one school performing as unsatisfactory:

- Hardeeville Junior/Senior High (middle grades): 43

- Hardeeville Junior/Senior High (high school grades): 42
Unsatisfactory (39 and below):
