Highway shut down after deadly crash in Hardeeville area, officials say

First responders shut down a portion of a highway north of Hardeeville after a fatal crash Friday morning, according to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.

All lanes of Deerfield Road (U.S. 321) were closed near its intersection with Old Charleston Road, police said in an alert sent around 8:15 a.m. Friday.

Drivers were advised to avoid the area and use alternate routes, like nearby Interstate 95.

Traffic data from the South Carolina Department of Transportation showed significant backups in the area of the crash around 9:45 a.m. Friday.

Additional information about the deadly collision was not immediately available.
