Beaufort County residents may have issues dialing 911, police say

A Charter Communications outage reported Tuesday afternoon may affect some Beaufort County residents’ ability to call 911, according to the sheriff’s office.

Charter customers experiencing these issues are encouraged to call the sheriff’s office non-emergency dispatch line at 843-524-2777, the department said in an alert around 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Outage reports for Spectrum, a subsidiary of Charter, showed little interruptions in the Beaufort and Hilton Head Island areas as of 4:30 p.m., according to the website Downdetector, which collates user-reported outages.

This report will be updated.
