Arrests made after over 8 lbs. of cocaine found in Hilton Head residence

Beaufort County deputies arrested two men late last month for allegedly trafficking over eight pounds of cocaine out of their residence on Hilton Head Island.

Xavier Alexander Rosa-Cabrera, 41, of Puerto Rico, and Rey-Agustin Zamora-Perez, 38, were charged Oct. 21 with cocaine trafficking and sale and distribution of cocaine, both felonies.

Their arrests were a culmination of a month-long case with assistance from the Drug Enforcement Administration, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

Undercover agents purchased cocaine from the suspects before police made their arrests. Officers then obtained warrants to search their home, where they reportedly found about four kilograms of cocaine and more than $25,000 in cash.

The sheriff’s office said Zamora-Perez was “an illegal immigrant from Mexico” who was residing on Hilton Head. He was booked into the Beaufort County jail on an ICE hold.

Both men remained in custody as of Thursday afternoon.

When we publish mugshots

The Island Packet and Beaufort Gazette publishes police booking photos, or mugshots, in the following instances:

  • In situations where a public figure or someone in a position of public trust is arrested
  • In cases where there is an immediate and widespread threat to public safety
  • In cases where the arrested person is accused of a crime reporters have evidence to believe involved numerous, unknown victims

Reporters will avoid using mugshots as lead images for online articles in order to limit their circulation on social media, except in cases where the public is served by the immediate identification of the accused. Reporters and editors may use discretion in situations that don’t meet the criteria outlined in this policy but still present a compelling reason to publish a mugshot.
