Bluffton woman denied bond after arrest for allegedly shooting husband

A Bluffton woman was denied bond after police accused her of shooting her husband at a local apartment complex.

Pamela Denise Anderson, 57, was charged early Saturday morning with attempted murder and a related firearms offense, according to Beaufort County inmate records.

Officers received a call reporting a gunshot wound around 7:40 p.m. from the Elle Apartments, a newly opened apartment complex off Bluffton Parkway near the Buckwalter Place business park. Anderson’s booking records list the complex as her address.

Police said Anderson fired two shots during the incident, one of which struck her husband and required him to be hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, according to Eydie Moody, a spokesperson for the Bluffton Police Department.

The husband was found in the breezeway of the couple’s apartment building. Anderson was located by police in the surrounding area and arrested shortly after, Moody said.

It was the latest case in a recent string of gun violence in the Bluffton area.

No arrests had been made after a gunshot victim was airlifted to the hospital from the Heritage at New Riverside community in mid-August. In a separate incident, police arrested a teenager after he allegedly shot another teen during an attempted robbery in Old Town Bluffton.

Last week on Hilton Head Island, an 82-year-old woman was charged with murder after police said she fatally shot her husband inside a skilled nursing facility.

The circumstances that led to the Bluffton apartment shooting remained under investigation as of Wednesday.

Anderson was denied bond in a Saturday hearing and remained in custody at the Beaufort County Detention Center, according to jail staff. A search of her name in local court records revealed no prior criminal history.

Leases at the Elle Apartments began last summer and the complex held its grand opening in December.

When we publish mugshots

The Island Packet and Beaufort Gazette publishes police booking photos, or mugshots, in the following instances:

  • In situations where a public figure or someone in a position of public trust is arrested
  • In cases where there is an immediate and widespread threat to public safety
  • In cases where the arrested person is accused of a crime reporters have evidence to believe involved numerous, unknown victims

Reporters will avoid using mugshots as lead images for online articles in order to limit their circulation on social media, except in cases where the public is served by the immediate identification of the accused. Reporters and editors may use discretion in situations that don’t meet the criteria outlined in this policy but still present a compelling reason to publish a mugshot.
