Gunshot victim found in Old Town Bluffton, airlifted to hospital

Police said a gunshot victim remained in critical condition after they were found “passed out” in a parked vehicle Wednesday evening in Old Town Bluffton.

Bluffton police responded to the downtown Dollar General at 1225 May River Road just after 8 p.m. Wednesday for a welfare check, finding one person inside a car with a gunshot wound to their torso. One of the vehicle’s doors was ajar.

First responders provided medical assistance before the gunshot victim was taken to a local hospital via air ambulance, according to the Bluffton Police Department.

The LifeStar helicopter picked the victim up around 8:55 p.m. after circling the area and arrived at Savannah’s Memorial Health University Medical Center around 10 p.m., flight records show.

The investigation is ongoing and there is no immediate threat to the public, according to department spokesperson Eydie Moody. She declined to answer additional questions about the case.

It was Bluffton’s second shooting in less than a month requiring an airlift to a hospital. Details remained sparse after one person was shot in the Heritage at New Riverside community on Aug. 14.

Police had not publicly identified any suspects connected to either incident.
